Hi Friends Reader I have a brand-new pumpkin recipe for you today, but this one is a little extra special to me. This creamy pumpkin rice pudding is my fall twist on arroz doce, the Brazilian rice pudding I grew up eating. And testing this recipe brought back a memory I hadn't thought about in a very long time. When I was a little girl in Brazil, I used to help my grandmother at our local farmers market on Saturday mornings. We would start before sunrise, and there was another vendor nearby who sold arroz doce. As the sun came up, the smell of warm cinnamon and cloves would fill the air. And if we'd had a good morning of sales, my grandmother would sometimes give me a few coins so I could buy myself a bowl. I can still remember how special that felt. All these years later, standing in my own kitchen stirring cinnamon and cloves into a pot of rice pudding brought me right back to those mornings with her. My version is definitely a little different. I added pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice and three kinds of milk for the creamiest fall version. It's rich, velvety, warmly spiced and tastes like pure comfort in a bowl. GET THE NEW PUMPKIN RICE PUDDING RECIPE → It also reminded me why I love sharing recipes so much. Food is more than what nourishes our bodies. It carries stories, places and people with it. Sometimes one familiar smell is all it takes to bring a memory rushing back. That connection to food and family is a big part of the story behind Garden in the Kitchen.
